I hate to sound like a broken record here, but the microcontroller is a tiny chip that looks very similar to an Arduino. The problem with the Arduino is that it’s a microcontroller that can be reprogrammed, which is what makes it so versatile. This can be abused by people who want to make their Arduino do something they don’t want it to do. I think the Arduino should just be the bare chip that is just the microcontroller and any software that can be reprogrammed should be made available on the Arduino.

Yes, you can reprogram it too. But why should you? If you need it to do something it shouldn’t be reprogrammed. That’s what the whole Arduino thing is about.

Arduino is basically a chip that basically contains a bunch of digital pins, a microcontroller, and some basic digital logic. The microcontroller will be the main processor and it’s the software that will be reprogrammed for whatever reason. Because of the reprogrammability, the Arduino can be used in different ways. You could have it be the main processor for your microcontroller. Or you could just use it to build and program the microcontroller.
